An Introduction About Me

Who am I?
My name is Odelia So and I'm a graduating senior at San Francisco State University. My major area of concentration within DAI is Visual Communication Design. I am also studying animation as a supplementary focus to accompany my studies as I'm interested in motion graphics and I believe that animation is also a way to visually communicate ideas and concepts through different mediums - whether through computer or traditional/2D animation. Besides than being proficient Adobe Creative Suite, I am also comfortable in using Autodesk Maya, a program used to model and animate 3D characters.

What Inspires/"WOWs" Me?
What inspires me is looking at the work and art of others and seeing how much time, effort, and dedication these people have put forth into their work. From viewing their pieces of art and design, it helps inspire me to work harder myself so that I can inch closer and closer toward my own aspirations and goals. I often go online to browse through websites and Flash enhanced sites of digital interactivity. Or I may observe the environment around me, whether it'd be admiring the architecture of structures/buildings or viewing poster designs and noting what makes them look visual appealing or how effectively they communicate their messages to viewers.

Who Influences Me?
The people all around me are my influences - my parents, my boyfriend, my friends, my classmates, and my teachers. If I feel ready to give up, they are quick to give me support and help me along in establishing my self-confidence. Without them, I will not be what I am today.

What is my vision or hope in my lifetime?
Academics:
As a student, I'm striving to learn what I can about design and what it really means to be a designer. Even after I graduate, I will never stop learning. There are many new things to grasp, new situations that I'll encounter, new challenges to deal with, but through all these, I'm looking forward to molding my skillset and becoming more adept at problem solving and developing an eye for good design and visual communication.

Professionally:
After graduating college, my goal is to pursue a job that would allow me to exercise my creativity through different mediums. Though I enjoy working with digital media, I also want to expand outward toward design in general which would include print, package, electronic, web, motion graphics/animation, and of the like. An important aspect of design is being able to identify problems and think flexibly of ways to solve them, and in my case, solving problems through visual communication to create a positive impact upon our society and community. I believe this class would help me develop such skills to identify, comprehend, research about, and solve issues.

Socially:
Other than my academic and professional goals, I wish to establish networks with others, not just with friends, but also with industry professionals and students of the same or similar fields. It would be nice to share a connection with those who love doing what I also love doing.
